FAQs on scores for the two-domain PET
Beginning with the Winter (December) 2026 test administration, the English domain will be separated from the Psychometric Entrance Test (PET). At that point, the test will comprise just two domains: Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. The only test that will be used to assess applicants’ English level will be the AMIRNET test. Information on this page relates to the PET format that will come into effect as of the Winter (December) 2026 test administration.
Each university acts autonomously regarding the selection and admission of applicants. NITE is not involved in these decisions. Therefore, that decision is made by each institution in accordance with its particular policies. There will be courses of study in which the English score will be weighed as part of the general admission score along with the two-domain PET score and Bagrut scores, for example, and there will be other courses of study in which the English score will be used only for purposes of English-level placement.
In addition, the institutions of higher education are free to decide whether they will use the English score as an admission cut off point, below which applicants will be rejected.
Before registration for the 2027-28 academic year opens, the universities will publish detailed information regarding the admissions process for each course of study. It is recommended that you read these notices.
In general, when a person has taken several tests, the academic institutions use the highest score, but the final decision depends on the specific institution and its admissions policies.
NITE reports test scores directly to the institutions. You may choose which institutions are authorized to receive your scores by logging onto the NITE website.
The two-domain score will be calculated by equally weighting the scores in the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning domains (50% for each domain). The scoring scale will be 200-800, as it is today. Starting in 2027, before registration for the 2027-28 academic year opens, the two-domain score will be uploaded to each examinee’s account on the website - including the accounts of examinees who took the PET when it consisted of three domains. In parallel, you will be able to see your English scores in your account, including those that will obtained either by taking the AMIR/AMIRAM/AMIRNET or by taking the PET (the score will be from the English domain on that test).
The scoring scale will not change. The two-domain score will be on a scale of 200-800. The score will be made up of your score in the Verbal Reasoning domain (50%) and in the Quantitative Reasoning domain (50%). The Verbal Reasoning score is made up of your score on the writing task (20%) and your score on the multiple-choice sections (80%).
Every academic institution sets its own admissions policies and therefore, it is recommended that you contact the institution where you want to study. Your two-domain score will be posted in your account on the NITE website and before registration for the spring semester of the 2026-27 academic year opens, the universities will publish the admissions policies that pertain to that semester.
The projected date for releasing scores for each test administration appears here. At this point, there is no change in the projected date for the release of scores for the Winter (December) 2026 test administration.
At this stage, no changes are being made to the scoring scale, the score needed for a waiver from English, or the scores that determine placement in English courses.
Yes. A two-domain score will be calculated for all tests taken within the past few years; those scores will appear in your account on the NITE website starting in 2027, before registration for the 2027-28 opens, and it will be valid for admissions purposes for at least 7 years from the time the test was given.
It is possible to estimate the two-domain PET score (on a scale of 200-800). First, calculate your average score on the two domains - (VE+QU)/2. Then convert the score using the table below:

Yes. The English score is valid for at least 7 years, whether it is a score you received on the English domain of the PET or whether you received it on an English proficiency test (AMIR, AMIRAM, or AMIRNET).
Yes. In the quantitative-oriented score, the Quantitative Reasoning score will be calculated on a 3:1 basis vis-à-vis the Verbal Reasoning score. That is, 75% for the Quantitative Reasoning score and 25% for the Verbal Reasoning score. The verbal-oriented score will be weighted in the opposite order: 75% for the Quantitative Reasoning score and 25% for the Verbal Reasoning score.
