How are the Scores Calculated?
The scores in the MITAM test are relative scores, reflecting the achievement of an examinee relative to the other examinees. Three scores are calculated for each examinee: a score for the section testing knowledge and comprehension of statistics and research methods; a score for the section testing comprehension of scientific texts on psychology; and a general score calculated from the scores in both sections.
The first stage of the score calculation process is calculation of the raw scores in each section of the test (according to the number of correct answers in each section). Next, the raw scores are standardized in order to allow comparison between the scores in the different sections and enable an accurate ranking of all the examinees.
In the second stage, the general test score is calculated as a weighted average of the scores in the two sections (40% for the section on knowledge and comprehension of statistics and research methods and 60% for the section on comprehension of scientific texts in psychology), and this average is translated into the final test score by applying a conversion formula (the formula appears in the explanatory leaflet sent to examinees when the scores are announced).
All the scores reported for the MITAM test are standard scores on a scale from 50 to 150 with a mean of 100 and standard deviation of 20.
The scores in the MITAM test are valid for applications for Master’s degrees in psychology for five academic years following the test. For example, the results of the 2021 test are valid for applicants to the 2022–2023, 2023–2024, 2024–2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years. Likewise, the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 tests are valid for the 2022–2023 academic year.
NITE’s Scoring Department deals with requests to report examinees’ results to institutions and requests to re-evaluate answer sheets.
We recommend making these requests by logging on to the website with your personal details (ID number or foreign passport number, and password). You can also follow the procedures described below.
Score Reporting
Reporting Scores to Academic Institutions
Academic institutions consider applicants on the basis of the scores reported directly to them by NITE. Every institution decides independently as to what weight is given to the MITAM scores in the admissions process for Master’s degrees in psychology or any specific specialization.
Your scores will be reported directly to all academic institutions in Israel offering advanced degrees in psychology within 45 days of the test date. The institutions to which scores are reported are listed here. NITE does not report test scores to institutions other than those listed. You can remove institutions from the list during registration.
Requests for changes: If you want your score not to be reported to any of the institutions you listed on the registration form, send an email before the test date to the Scoring Department at score@nite.org.il, specifying to which institutions your score should not be reported.
If you want your score to be reported to other institutions, in addition to those you requested during registration, you can do so by logging on to the website. There is no fee for requests for changes. We recommend making the request via the personal area on the website. You may also download the Reporting Scores to Institutions form, and send it as an email attachment to the Scoring Department, score@nite.org.il. If you do not receive an acknowledgment, please contact the Scoring Department by telephone the day after submitting the request in order to confirm that your request has been received.
After a score report request is submitted, the scores will be available to the institutions. The scores are retrieved by the institutions within seven working days. There is no possibility of shortening the reporting time.

Reporting Scores to Examinees
Within 45 days of the test date, around the date that the score is reported to academic institutions, you will be able to check your score by logging on to the NITE website with the personal details (ID number or foreign passport number, and password) with which you are registered on the website. Your score will also be emailed to you.
Within three months of the test date you may request an additional copy of the score report to be mailed to you free of charge.
The report includes the following details:
- Score in each of the two sections: knowledge and comprehension of statistics and research methods, and comprehension of scientific texts in psychology.
- General MITAM score, calculated as a weighted average of the scores in the two sections.
Every report is accompanied by an Explanatory Leaflet.
The scores for all examinees on a particular date are calculated simultaneously. It is not possible to report any one examinee’s scores before others’.
NITE does not report scores by telephone or fax.
There is a fee for sending an additional copy of the score report to examinees. You may request this from the Scoring Department by telephone or by downloading the Credit Card Payment Form. Save the form to your computer and send it as an email attachment to score@nite.org.il. Please contact the Scoring Department by telephone the day after submitting the request to confirm that the request has been received.
Requests for Re-evaluation of Answer Sheets
NITE allows the re-evaluation of answer sheets. There is a service charge for re-evaluation, but if the re-evaluation confirms that an error had occurred, this charge will be refunded. Past experience shows that errors are extremely unlikely. If you want to request a re-evaluation of your answer sheets, you can do so by telephoning the Scoring Department, or via the downloadable Credit Card Payment for Answer Sheet Re-evaluation form. Save the form to your computer and send it as an email attachment to score@nite.org.il. Please contact the Scoring Department by telephone the day after submitting the request to confirm that the request has been received. Requests for answer sheet re-evaluation may be made up to three months following the test date. We will respond within seven working days after the request and payment have been received.
Note that the re-evaluation does not include a reassessment of the open questions, but only a check that the evaluation results were entered correctly.
In addition, in every case in which information discovered by or brought to the attention of NITE casts doubt for any reason upon the reliability of any score reported to an examinee, including cases where evidence is uncovered during subsequent tests taken by the examinee, or information is provided to NITE by external sources such as academic institutions, NITE reserves the right – during every test administration date – to freeze or disqualify that score and to summon the examinee to a retest to clarify the matter (and, when relevant, to notify the academic institutions that the score which NITE had previously reported to them has been disqualified).
